This year, we've had the pleasure of meeting NSW Local Hero Australian of the Year - Sophie Smith. A total inspiration, Sophie has taken an unbelievably painful experience of losing her triplets to creating a charity that her and her late husband started - Running for Premature Babies - raising funds for lifesaving neonatal equipment in hospitals. We joined their team for the City to Surf and was lead by another inspiration - Heather Lee, a 92 year old speed walking queen and NSW Senior Australian of the Year.
Heather set a cracking pace and there were many times during the race that we had to giddyup and jog to catch up. Two strategies we learnt, stick to a consistent pace and hug the curve of the road....presto! While we were walking we came across another amaze - Team Enid - "98 and not out!" WOHOO!
At the end we were greeted by Ambassador for Running for Premature Babies, 2019 NSW Australian of the Year, and all round legend Kurt Fearnley.
Running for Premature Babies is a wonderful charity that makes such a difference to the lives of so many families.
A little more on Sophie here.
