ANNA LOW

THE POTTS POINT BOOKSHOP is Anna Low's paradise. After studying publishing at New York University, Anna moved back to Australia, diving into the world of independent bookshops.

Eight years ago, she acquired her own – today the Potts Point Bookshop is the destination for lovers of fiction and fact – a beautiful place to spend good time, add to your collection or find something awesome to give.

From hosting author events, being a regular reviewer on ABC Radio National, and for the last three years on the judging panel for the Miles Franklin Award…..plus being a mum of twin teen boys – Anna is one dynamic force.

It was a pleasure to visit Anna's book nirvana – and of course, see her put her Good Day Girl styles into action.

Favourite spot/s for coffee? GYPSY in Potts Point and Apache in Boundary Street, Paddington.

Shop that you find hard to walk by without going in? HATMAKER in South Dowling Street in Paddington.  I am absolutely fascinated by the beautiful work of Jonathan Howard and I love having a peak inside his studio and looking at all the work in progress.

Hidden gem that you are willing to share? CLOTH & CO which is home to some of the most gorgeous hand made homewares, scarves, towels and bags.  Everything is made in India to support Women's development programs and sustain artisan crafts.  I have bought some beautiful treasures at their studio in McMahon's Point.

Is there a present or past day style icon who you draw inspiration from?

There are so many to choose from. I covet a Yves Saint Laurent - Le Smoking from 1966 and I love the Japanese unstructured look of Yohji Yamamoto and Commes de Garcons.

Favourite flower? Can I have two?  Hydrangeas and peonies.  I am a member of a hydrangea appreciation society, it is a pretty small but committed group.

What colour combinations make you feel happy? I love wearing red clothes.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Tough question that one. Baked potatoes with yoghurt and a green salad or rice with dahl and indian pickles.....

Do you plan what you are wearing the night before or do you reach for whatever is closest when you get dressed in the morning? A little bit of both. If I have a busy day or something special on I try and plan the night before but generally I just grab something in the morning.

How important is it that your clothes are functional? Extremely, my work is very physical and we are often moving big piles of boxes and books.  I spend a lot of time climbing up and down ladders and crawling into hidden storage spaces.  There is no room for a wardrobe malfunction.

Memories are in what we wear, what piece of clothing or accessory takes you immediately back to that moment? I have a string of pearls that my mother gave me, they are strung on black rubber and I was so surprised and thrilled in her choosing them for me that every time I wear them I think happy thoughts of her.

On wearing Good Day Girl, one word to describe how it feels: Superdupercomfortable.

Thank you Anna for chatting and playing with us!!! And a big thank you to Dean Tirkot for taking the snaps.
